FERAL Animal Survival Baby Survival: Keep Your Baby Alive and Grow Into a Teen

Last updated:

A complete baby-stage guide for FERAL Animal Survival: finish the spawn tutorial, raise GROWTH with food and quests, dodge hostile animals with scent, night vision and water, and know what death costs before your pup hits 34% and becomes a teen.

Quick answer

Keep your baby fed, watered and questing: eating and completing QUESTS raise the GROWTH meter, while staying alive is the hard part, because death resets growth β€” one observed revival dropped a wolf pup all the way back to 1%. A baby wolf grows into a teen at 34% GROWTH, which also unlocks its first ability, LUNGE.

  • A new wolf pup starts in Den Hollow in Winter at 6% GROWTH with a three-step tutorial: move with WASD, click to bite the highlighted mouse, then eat it.
  • The QUESTS panel (QUICK and DAILY tabs) pays Amber for drinking, traveling and hunting tasks; the gameplay video's narrator advises, 'Each drink and do quest to grow.'
  • Stay alive with scent, night vision and the territory map, and remember your baby can swim and dive (Q to go up, E to go down).
  • Death resets progress: after one observed revival, the wolf restarted at 1% GROWTH with LUNGE locked again β€” only its Amber balance was kept.

Every animal in FERAL Animal Survival lives this loop β€” the official description promises you will 'Be born as a tiny wolf 🐺 or a wobbly deer 🦌, find food and water, and grow from baby to adult in the wild.' The specific numbers in this guide come from play with the wolf pup, so treat 6% and 34% as wolf values; other starters follow the same idea but their exact thresholds may differ. If you are still choosing, our starter animals and all animals pages cover the roster: at the create screen you can pick the wolf, a river otter, cougar, bald eagle, python, alligator or tiger, herbivores such as the porcupine, white-tailed deer, elk, Asian elephant, bison and rhino, or omnivores such as the red fox and grizzly bear. Every one of them has its own baby model, and you can name your animal.

Your first minutes as a baby wolf

A new pup spawns in Den Hollow during Winter at 6% GROWTH, and the game teaches survival in three short steps:

Checklist

  • Move with WASD

'WASD to move' appears under the first tutorial prompt.

  • Click to bite the highlighted mouse

The tutorial marks your first target with 'CLICK TO BITE THE MOUSE!' over the mouse.

  • Eat the killed mouse

Eating is Step 2/3, and it already moves the meter: in one session it took the pup from 7% to 12% GROWTH.

That is the whole baby stage in miniature: get food, eat it, watch GROWTH climb. The same eat-to-grow rule covers everything else your baby can safely take down or drink up.

How GROWTH carries your baby to teen

GROWTH is a percentage meter, and a popup tells you 'GROW UP TO UNLOCK YOUR ABILITY!' while the meter climbs.

Mechanic flow

  1. 1

    Born at 6% GROWTH

A wolf pup starts in Den Hollow in Winter with its F ability locked.

  2. 2

    Eat and complete quests

Meals and finished quests raise the meter.

  3. 3

    Reach 34% GROWTH

The baby wolf grows into a teen.

  4. 4

    Unlock LUNGE and keep going

The F slot unlocks and the game pushes you to try it.

At 34%, the game prompts you to 'TRY YOUR ABILITY: LUNGE! Get close to a deer and press F to leap on it!'

Reaching teen is the baby stage's finish line, but it is really a checkpoint. Our growth stages overview and how to grow adult guide pick up from there.

Quests, food and water: the growth loop

The QUESTS panel (with QUICK and DAILY tabs) is a baby's best friend, because quest rewards overlap with what your baby needs anyway. Drinking water fills drink quests while covering the water your baby needs β€” the official description's 'find food and water' premise; traveling fills the distance quest while you walk between water, food and safer ground. These were the QUICK tasks observed in one session:

Observed QUICK tasks and Amber rewards

Data table

Data table
Quick taskAmberHow it tracks
Drink at Tall Marsh+360/1 β€” drink once at Tall Marsh
Drink 20 water+180/20 β€” each drink adds one
Travel 600 m+34A live distance counter (seen at 72/600 and climbing)
Hunt a deer+360/1 β€” appeared in the same panel later in the session
FINISH ALL 3+39A bonus for clearing the full quick set

The exact tasks and Amber values were observed in a single session, so expect the list and numbers to move with updates. Exploration pays too: discovering new areas pops '+20 Amber' notifications β€” in one session, both ALDER CREEK DISCOVERED! and DEN HOLLOW DISCOVERED! paid out. Our how to find water, how to find food and hunting guides cover the survival side of the loop in detail.

Staying alive: a baby's real job

Other animals β€” other players included β€” can and do attack smaller animals, and a baby has little chance in a straight fight. The game gives you four tools that let a weak baby avoid fights entirely:

Tips

Follow your scent

The scent feature shows where different things are. Use it to line up food and water, and to get a read on your surroundings before you blunder into them.

Flip on night vision

Night vision highlights other players on the map, which makes it easier to spot a hostile animal before it is on top of your baby.

Read the territory map

The map shows which territories are contested and which packs hold them. In one session, East Den Hollow was flagged 'GOJO'S PACK - CONTESTED!' β€” treat contested ground as the risky route.

Use water, with open eyes

Your baby can swim and dive (Q to go up, E to go down). The video narrator we reviewed treats open water as the safer place when a hostile animal presses you β€” a judgment from play, not a written rule β€” and the same session ran into water full of alligators, so a pond is a refuge, not a guarantee.

None of these tools make a baby strong; they buy distance. When something big closes in anyway, our predators and prey and how to escape predators guides cover the wider playbook, and the map page helps you plan safer routes.

What death costs β€” and what you keep

When your baby dies, the screen turns grayscale and the HUD hides. A death settlement screen offers a green REVIVE (FREE) button, reported to carry a -40% growth penalty note. The verified aftermath of one revival is stark: the wolf had already grown into a teen at 39%, and death sent it back to a 1% GROWTH baby with its goal reset to 'GROW INTO A TEEN 1/34%' and LUNGE locked again. One consolation β€” the Amber balance survived death intact.

That reset is why not dying is the growth strategy. If you would rather not re-earn your progress, the game's product catalog lists paid revives β€” REVIVE BABY (R$9), REVIVE 2 (R$19), REVIVE GROWN (R$29), REVIVE ELDER (R$39) and REVIVE ELDER II (R$49) β€” next to INSTA-GROW (100%) (R$39), INSTA-ELDER (200%) (R$99) and a stack of Amber packs. Our revive guide walks through coming back from a death.

Where to go next

Start with the tutorial mouse, drink and eat on a loop, let the QUICK quests accumulate while you travel between safe spots, and keep bigger animals at paw's length until 34% puts LUNGE on your F key. From there, the beginner guide broadens the picture, and our codes page tracks current FERAL codes if you want to check for freebies.
