How to Find Water in FERAL Animal Survival (and Complete Drink Quests)
Where water is in FERAL Animal Survival, which named locations to aim for, and how to finish drink quests from the QUESTS panel for Amber rewards.
Quick answer
Rivers and a hidden lake are the advertised water terrain in FERAL Animal Survival, and drink quests complete at the water itself: open the QUESTS panel, check the QUICK and DAILY tabs for a task like “Drink at Tall Marsh 0/1”, travel to the named water, and drink until the counter fills to collect the Amber reward.
- Named spots such as ALDER CREEK and TALL MARSH appear on the minimap and location banner — wetland and creek names are promising drink destinations.
- In one reviewed session, “Drink at Tall Marsh 0/1” paid +36 Amber and “Drink 20 water 0/20” paid +18 Amber; the exact lineup can rotate.
- You can swim, and while in the water Q takes you up and E takes you down, so rivers double as travel routes.
Water is one of the two survival basics the game asks of you — the official description drops you in as “a tiny wolf or a wobbly deer”, tells you to find food and water, and grow from baby to adult. The two needs travel together: the how to find food guide covers hunting and foraging, and this one is about the other half of the routine — where the water actually is, and how to turn a drink into quest progress and Amber.
Where water is on the map
The official description advertises explorable terrain that includes rivers, forests, a hidden lake and the deep gorge. That tells you water definitely exists as river and lake areas, but it stops short of exact spawn points — you find water by exploring toward it, and the map’s named locations are your best breadcrumbs.
Locations the minimap and location banner can show include DEN HOLLOW (the starting area), ALDER CREEK, TALL MARSH, EAST DEN HOLLOW and NE MUDLANDS. Watch for the wet-sounding names: Tall Marsh is the literal target of a “Drink at Tall Marsh” quest, so named creek and marsh areas can work as drink destinations. The hidden lake is real, advertised terrain too — its exact position isn’t given in the official description, so treat finding it as an exploration goal in its own right. How to complete a drink quest
Checklist
- Open the QUESTS panel
It has QUICK and DAILY tabs — check both for water tasks, which show progress counters like 0/1 or 0/20.
- Read what the task actually asks
A named-location task such as “Drink at Tall Marsh 0/1” wants a drink at that specific spot, while a count task like “Drink 20 water 0/20” simply tracks every drink you take.
- Travel to the water
Head for the named marsh or creek on the location banner, or to any river or lake you have already found, and get to the edge.
- Drink until the counter completes
The counter updates as you drink — a 0/20 task fills over twenty drinks, and the Tall Marsh task completes on a drink at the marsh itself.
- Collect the Amber
Finishing pays the listed amount: +36 Amber for the Tall Marsh drink and +18 Amber for the 20-drink task in the reviewed session.
Quest lineups can change — those two drink tasks come from a single reviewed session, so your panel may offer different drink targets or reward amounts. The Amber stacks with whatever else you earn; the how to get Amber guide collects the other routes.
Getting there: swim, dive and follow the river
Your animal can swim, and water is more than a place to stop and drink — while you are in it you can dive, with Q to go up and E to go down. One player headed down a river this way, and even baby animals were seen swimming and diving there. Rivers are passable terrain, so once you have found one you can follow it or cross it while you search for more sources.
Watch for hostile wildlife around water

Water attracts more than thirsty animals. Rivers and wetland areas can host hostile wildlife: in one session a player found so many alligators in the water that they turned and ran, and an otter attack elsewhere was enough to kill their wolf outright. Water is not an escape guarantee either — a fleeing prey animal was seen diving in to shake off a chase. None of this is a fixed spawn rule, so treat each session’s water as its own risk: scan before you lower your head to drink, and be extra careful while you are still small. If a drink goes wrong, the how to escape predators guide covers getting out alive.
Tips
Scan the banks first
Alligators were met in numbers in one river — a quick look around can save you a nasty surprise.
Small animals are targets
An otter attack killed a player’s wolf, so do not linger at the water’s edge while you are a baby.
Water is not a safe zone
Prey escapes into it and hostile wildlife lives in it — take your drink and move on.
If you are still finding your feet, the FERAL Animal Survival beginner guide pulls the early-game routine together — check the QUESTS panel each session, then fold a drink stop into whatever exploring you were doing anyway.
